Yesterday Kevin Mckeever spoke at A-Kon in Dallas. I was there in the room and he stated that at this point, absolutely nothing has happened with the movie other than that WB and Tobey Macguire's production company have acquired the rights. All that means is that they they now have the option of making the movie. To quote him "There is no script. There is no director. There are no actor. There is no budget" etc. There is no movie whatsoever as of this time. That does not mean that some guy in WB somewhere is not doing something to make these things happen, but I'd guess you'd have to get some sources over at WB to find that out. I asked him what rights they'd gotten and he basically said everything. They can make a film set in any time period about any subject whatsoever. He said "They can make a film about the Dana Barbie dolls if they want" by way of example. So this film we're talking about could be just about anything. Furthermore, it sounds like it's pretty flexible as to how WB "interprets" the canon.
McKeever also said that the next animated film is "on hiatus" because WB doesn't want what HG is making to get in the way of the live-action. So the live-action has to come first before we see The Shadow Rising film. Suck. However, he did say production had started, but then he said how far it had gotten was classified. The movie definitely will happen (provided WB doesn't just keep stalling for 10 years or something).
Anyway it was really cool, and everybody who asked a question got a prize. He gave out some original cells from Robotech (not copies, not replicas, the real thing), some Robotech polo shirts, and some Veritechs (can't remember what model though).

Let's say the RLAM is a HUGE success. Naturally, WB and HG would want to capitalize on this. Suddenly there are a flood of new fans. Fans who are unfamiliar with the "historic Robotech" of old. Fans who know only the movie continuity, and want more of it.
What if, to appease the new fans (who happen to far outnumber the old guard), and cash in on the movie hype, WB&HG decide they need to create an animated series that is "immediately accessable" to new fans. A new series that retells the story of Robotech from day one. A series that is more along the lines of the new movie than the old series.
Could this actually happen? Could we see the current Robotech Saga ended (or worst, left hanging), just so they can roll out a new series that has more glamor and glitz but lacks the substance of the original?!?! THIS COULD BE THE END OF ROBOTECH AS WE KNOW IT (AND I DON'T FEEL FINE)!!!
This will be truth?
What do think guys?

God I hope they do not remake the original series just so it can appeal to the younger audience.. Why cant people appreciate classics anyway? I do, heck I love a lot of classic things such as movies and music, so I dont understand why theres all these remakes and new versions. example is the new transformers cartoon, first of all its crap, I tried watching it and didnt get through five minutes, I flipped back to spongebob. They also made a new crappy speed racer cartoon that looks like crap, mainly because it was done in flash.
If the live action movie is a success, then I think they can just introduce the original series to the new fans, there is no need to update the story and characters just so kids can accept it. I also dont want WB to kiddify robotech, to the point is only marketed at kids.. because that would be another terrible disappointment.
