When I heard the news I was very sad and I had to come back and express my condolences to his Family and friends who knew him personally. I never had the pleasure to meet Carl when he was in Texas.
I too am a "85er" and like most 85ers we would rush home to catch Robotech when it aired. And when Robotech spirit "revived" back when I rediscovered Robotech after Battlecry I was glad to be back. My mom was so happy that I sent her my Legacy collection because she got into it when we would watch. And how awesome it was to see Carl back on Robotech.
All of us fans will never forget you Carl, Robotech created so many nice folks as fans of Robotech and I thank you for that.
May God be with you Carl and your family, friends and fans.

Wow, what a saddening piece of news. I had the privilege to speak to Carl Macek a few times on the internet, and was surprised at how friendly and erudite he was. It's really sad that he never lived to see Robotech get made into a live-action movie on the bigscreen, or to get involved in the production work for it.
I hope that if that live-action bigscreen movie gets made, they give a small dedication note in memory of Carl Macek, a true pioneer in storytelling.
