I like my Macross, I love my Robotech I have no problem at all of women and the use of her sexiness, I love almost everthing of that comic, I hate that cover(or at least the animal doing minmat part) and the stuff about swiching Roy for Lisa(yeah I call her Lisa and not Misa, Misa- I go there every sunday and pray)

That, uh...doesn't answer my question...

Do you have Macross the First Volume 1? Have you seen the entire book?

Incisivis

That said, I know already I won't ever like this manga. The use of DYRL design for the Zentreadi gets an automatic thumbs-down, and nothing else about Macross interests me enough to feel even a glimmer of affection towards this material.

It's not only about changing the Zentreadi characters' looks (though that is hardly a small quibble), but also their personalities: from the looks of things, Exsedol and Britai have the same poker-faced dullness that soured their DYRL versions.

I LIKE THE ORIGINAL SDF MACROSS LOOK. AT LEAST EXSEDOL DOES NOT HAVE THAT HUGE BRAIN LIKE IN DYRL. AS WELL AS THE UNIFORM. BUT MEH, IT DOES NOT QUARK ME LIKE THE OTHER CANON ISSUES.

ON A SIDE NOT.. ON THE ZENTRADI SOLDIER, ON THE FACE SHIELD YOU SEE A SYMBOL. NOT SURE IF IT'S JUST REFLECTION FROM A LIGHT SOURCE LIKE THE SUN OR HAS ANY RESEMBLANCE FROM DYRL. OR IS IT FROM MACROSS ZERO?

THOUGHTS OR JUST A CHEVRON BY THE ARTIST CHOICE...

You and MEMO with the beaver. I don't get what all the fuzz is about. Animal is just hanging on there, its your guys' fault for looking at it more than it is. In the end everyone has their own opinions.

Whatever your argument may be, at least its something new and its generating tons of activity on here already. So go Macross!

Episode Notes: If our show caused controversy let's talk a bit about it again so that fans can participate.

The only controversy that I can see is this:

How can you love it if you haven't seen it? How can you do a podcast about it if you haven't read it?

In the news of a podcast and this question involved, it would imply that the podcast "discussion" is more of a bait trap for argument. With his opinion already made against something he clearly has an issue with without seeing all the way through, or reading it, seems more like wasted time, and pointles judging of something he doesn't know enough about. It's hard to take any validity in the comments of someone who has made a mountain out of a mole hill, so I'll pass on that discussion.

Very true, but I'm more interested in the "why" of this situation... I mean, why would someone pretend to have seen a book that he hasn't? And then invite people who HAVE seen it to have a discussion with him? Seems like a good way to damage one's own credibility, but little more.

Anyway, this thread inspired me to reread the book yesterday...and I have to say that my favorite scenes are the ones that are COMPLETELY different from the show. My favorite from Volume One is definitely when they turn on the anti-gravity generators on the SDF-1. heFrom the further chapters, I love the SDF-1's transformation...nice mix of the TV series and DYRL there.

I'm also wondering...if you compare the magazine installments of Chapters 1 and 2 to the book version, there are some (minor) changes in the art and dialogue; I wonder if that'll be true for Volume 2 as well?

COME ON GUBABA. YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW ONE IMAGE CAN EXPRESS A THOUSAND WORDS. HISTORY HAS SHOWN US THAT. ESPECIALLY WAR PICTURES. AND THATS WHAT THE PODCAST WILL HAVE. A TALK ABOUT AN IMAGE. MW CAN DO A PODCAST OF THEIR OWN ON THE BOOK. :) OR GET JT EVEN TO DO IT.

LIKE IN ROBOTECH AND WILL SAY HERE AS WELL. SEX SELLS. BE IT BIG BOOBS AND BIG REAR ENDS. EVEN ANIMALS IN HUGE REAR ENDS. YOU DON'T NEED TO READ A WHOLE BOOK TO JUDGE IT BY THE COVER.

ME, JUST AN IMAGE THAT IS NOT NEEDED. MORE POWER TO THE ARTIST BUT BAD FOR MY TASTE. AN IMAGE THAT IS NOT NEEDED. AND DONT GET ME STARTED WITH IT'S A JAPANESE THING...

:P

You've seen more of the comic than JT has... I don't think he's seen any of it, except for my avatars here.

Anyway, you're missing my point. Sure, you can talk about the cover all you want (for an hour, though? Isn't that a little excessive?), but Juan said that he loved the comic, except for the cover and Misa taking over the air show.

So...if he's never actually seen the comic, how can he say that he loved it? And why would he say he's seen the book when he hasn't?
