Can we say DOUBLE STANDARD and HYPOCRISY? Are mods exempt from the rules here just like on rt.com?
I thought that this was the ongoing standard with the franchise
I STILL DON'T SEE BW/SN SAYING ANYTHING ON THE MATTER.
But based on the facts that I posted earlier, do you still need a say from BW?
You know, when you have HG coming up with PR stunts like the one on your video, its only because HG wants to control what is being said or reported within their market (or what they think is their market), and since they know that BW doesn't waste time on this kind of PR stunt, HG is pretty much free to say all what they want, even if is not true
It's funny, HG spends a lot of time going around cons talking about the same topics over and over while BW and Studio Nue are more focused on creating new material.
As a consumer, I would rather spend money on new products than going to see Tommy at a con
NOPE. CONSIDERING THAT A TOY COMPANY DID DEAL. SO THAT SPECULATION IS OUT.
Are u referring to the Toynami deal where the company was going to distribute Bandai's VF-1?
Stay classy RobotechX

MEMO, Thank you for adding BW's statement to the end of the legal debate thread.ALL LEGALITY DEBATES ARE HERE ON THE SUBJECT. CANON FODDER WHERE IT BELONGS. SO PLEASE CONTINUE THE ARGUMENT THERE IF YOU WANT TO BRING ANYTHING UP ON THE SUBJECT.
www.robotechx.com/forums/51-cannon-fodde...g-debate-thread.html
WILL SEE IF I CAN FIND IT AND ADD TO THE END OF THE LEGAL DEBATE THREAD.
Interesting name for that forum, "cannon fodder". Isn't that the term for soldiers regarded as expendable in battle?

PRETTY MUCH. SO ALL WHO WANT TO REALLY GET NASTY GO THERE. AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE POSTS.Interesting name for that forum, "cannon fodder". Isn't that the term for soldiers regarded as expendable in battle?
Origins of the term
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannon_fodder
The concept of regarding soldiers as nothing more than "food" to be consumed by battle was known at least as far back as the sixteenth century. For example, in William Shakespeare's play Henry IV, Part 1 there is a scene where Prince Henry ridicules John Falstaff's pitiful group of soldiers. Falstaff replies to Prince Henry with cynical references to gunpowder and tossing bodies into mass grave pits, saying that his men are "good enough to toss; food for powder, food for powder; they’ll fill a pit as well as better [men]..."
The supposedly first attested use of the expression "cannon fodder" belongs to a French writer, François-René de Chateaubriand. In his anti-Napoleonic pamphlet "De Buonaparte et des Bourbons", published in 1814, he criticized the cynical attitude towards recruits, that prevailed in the end of Napoleon's reign: "On en était venu à ce point de mépris pour la vie des hommes et pour la France, d'appeler les conscrits la matière première et la chair à canon" — "the contempt for the lives of men and for France herself has come to the point of calling the conscripts 'the raw material' and 'the cannon fodder'."[2]

It appears that Toynami/HG is simply importing the Revoltech valks then reselling them. Do they actually have a licensing agreement for distributing them in the US?
IINM, every licensing deal HG has tried to make with major Japanese manufacturers in the last decade has fallen through, isn't that why Toynami came into existence?
BTW, aren't the Revoltech Valks pretty much the same thing as the 1/100 Toynami Valks, just with better joints? From what I've read each has its flaws, both have their proponents and critics.

NOT MISSING ANYTHING. JUST THAT IN THE LAST DECADE THIS IS A FIRST WHERE A JAPAN DEAL IS SIGNED CONCERNING A JAPAN IMPORT.I've been reading and listening to what was said by Tommy and others. Seems to me nothing has really changed over the last decade as far as licensing goes? Am I missing something?
BY THE LOOKS OF IT YES. FROM WHAT TOMMY SAID IN THE VIDEO IS UNDER THE TOYNAMI UMBRELLAIt appears that Toynami/HG is simply importing the Revoltech valks then reselling them. Do they actually have a licensing agreement for distributing them in the US?
ACTUALLY THE LICENSE IS HELD BY TOYNAMI. SO IT WOULD BE TOYNAMI CALL ON WHO TO DEAL. OTHER THAN MATCHBOX, I ONLY KNOW OF TOYNAMI BEING THE NEXT TO MAKE THE TOYS WITHOUT LOOKING INTO IMPORTS. NEVER HEARD OF HG TRYING TO MAKE DEALS WITH JAPAN TOY MAKERS THOUGHT.IINM, every licensing deal HG has tried to make with major Japanese manufacturers in the last decade has fallen through, isn't that why Toynami came into existence?
YEP. AND I THINK MORE CLOSE TO THE ANIME STYLE. PRICE IS STILL TO HIGH FOR ME TO JUMP IN. WILL SEE HOW THE MARKET WORKS THEM OUT. THEY DO LOOK NICE AND I HOPE SOMEONE MAKE BIGGER VALK'S.BTW, aren't the Revoltech Valks pretty much the same thing as the 1/100 Toynami Valks, just with better joints? From what I've read each has its flaws, both have their proponents and critics.
NOW IF TOYNAMI CAN WORK A DEAL WITH YAMATO.... HMMMM... I'D BUY THAT TOY.

Its a matter of semantics, isn't it...ACTUALLY THE LICENSE IS HELD BY TOYNAMI. SO IT WOULD BE TOYNAMI CALL ON WHO TO DEAL. OTHER THAN MATCHBOX, I ONLY KNOW OF TOYNAMI BEING THE NEXT TO MAKE THE TOYS WITHOUT LOOKING INTO IMPORTS. True, Toynami has the exclusive license for Roboetch toys in the US so they do make the distribution deals, but does anyone really believe that HG has no say over what they release or don't release? Tommy has a reputation for micromanaging the licensees so I can't see him and/or other reps from HG not being involved in those deals to some extent. That's part of the reason why I referred to them as "Toynami/HG" above. The other reason is that HG was making the distribution deals or lack thereof before Toynami was created.
As I mentioned above, Toynami was reportedly created because HG blocked their own deal with Toycom (IINM aka Yamato USA). When that deal fell through, George Sohn previously of Toycom, started Toynami to manufacture and distribute Robotech toys for HG. Otherwise, in theory HG (or if you prefer their domestic distributor) would be selling imported toys based on deals with Japanese distributors and manufacturers wouldn't they? Isn't that what we were talking about, imported toys?
I apparently was wrong about all of their deals falling through as Toynami reportedly is modifying Beagle's 1/10 scale Mospeada riders for distribution as the Masterpiece Collection Cyclones.
What is the status of Toynami's deal with the Bandai VF-1's announced back in 2008? There was a lot of hoopla concerning the deal back in 2008 and again in 2009 after its release was pushed back a year. They were even on preorder at rt.com for a while, but now they're gone. I can't seem to find any updates since they were pushed back in 2009.

DON'T KNOW. LIKE I SAID, NEVER BOUGHT ONE SINCE THE PRICE IS STILL TO HIGH.Does the packaging have a Toynami logo on it?
BE INVOLVED IN THE DEALS? ABSOLUTELY. MICROMANAGING? DON'T THINK SO. OR ELSE HG WOULD HAVE EVERY TOY OUT THERE THAT EVERY FAN WANTS. THERE IS A LIMIT TO THIS MICROMANAGING BELIEF. HG CAN TRY TO PERSUADE WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHICH TOMMY HAS SAID IN THE VIDEOS WHEN THEY TALK TO GEORGE SOHN BUT IT'S STILL IN GEORGE'S HAND.True, Toynami has the exclusive license for Roboetch toys in the US so they do make the distribution deals, but does anyone really believe that HG has no say over what they release or don't release? AND YES, ABOUT GEORGE STARTING TOYNAMI AND NOW WORKING WITH "SOME" OF THESE JAPANESE TOY COMPANIES. WHO KNOWS, MAYBE WE MIGHT SEE SOMETHING DOWN THE LINE IN FUTURE DEALS. MORE LEGAL IMPORTS THE BETTER. NOW IF THEY CAN ONLY GET THE MACROSS YAMATO LINE AS WELL.
FORGOT TO ADD THE DEAL THEY MADE WITH REVELL WHICH ALSO HAD MACROSS JAPAN MODEL KITS FOR THE NAME "ROBOTECH". NOT SURE WHAT THEY HAD IN LINE BEFORE THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN HG AND REVELL.

Toynami isn't like say Hasbro, they put out a very limited line of overpriced Robotech toys (and their OSM counterparts) one at a time (or in mini-sets) with some trinkets thrown into the schedule from time to time.
As for my claim that Tommy micromanages their licensees, just look to Palladium's current Robotech RPG line.
Based on their history I seriously doubt it, but who knows?AND YES, ABOUT GEORGE STARTING TOYNAMI AND NOW WORKING WITH "SOME" OF THESE JAPANESE TOY COMPANIES. Actually, Revell's "Robotech Defender" kits predated the tv series by about a year. IINM, the only deal between HG and Revell was for the name "Robotech", and to limit the RD comic to only two issues although that may have had more to do with it not making money more than any deal. I was under the impression Revell discontinued the RD line once their on hands were sold out.FORGOT TO ADD THE DEAL THEY MADE WITH REVELL WHICH ALSO HAD MACROSS JAPAN MODEL KITS FOR THE NAME "ROBOTECH". Does anyone else know if Toynami put their logo on the Revoltech imports they are distributing/reselling?
Does anyone know what the current status is for Toynami's 2008 deal to distribute the Bandai VF-1's? Other than being pushed back a year, which would have been 2009 (a year ago).

The current status is that deal never went through on the Bandai VF-1's. This is not speculation I was told personally. Bandai / Tamashii was going to manufacture the Veritech Ver. for Toynami as an OEM type product. These versions would be missing the Bandai branding on the plastic parts, so Toynami could distribute them overseas. For those wondering the project was not stopped by BW it was someone at Bandai's corporate office that stopped it for their own reasons.
Bandai was working with Toynami on distributing some of their products but Bandai eventually broke that off as well and is now working with another distributor in the US.
However Megahouse is a division of Bandai and RT.com is still currently selling the Megahouse Mospeada Ride Armors with Toynami distribution stickers so the two companies probably still have unfinished business between them.
