Spider-Man 4 Scrapped. Reboot Planned
Here's the official press release from Sony:
www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=13678
Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012.
Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.
The new chapter in the Spider-Man franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.
“A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We’re very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning,” said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
“Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job,” said Sam Raimi.
“We have had a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and friendship with Sam and Tobey and they have given us their best for the better part of the last decade. This is a bittersweet moment for us because while it is hard to imagine Spider-Man in anyone else’s hands, I know that this was a day that was inevitable,” said Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, who has served as the studio’s chief production executive since the beginning of the franchise. “Now everything begins anew, and that’s got us all tremendously excited about what comes next. Under the continuing supervision of Avi and Laura, we have a clear vision for the future of Spider-Man and can’t wait to share this exciting new direction with audiences in 2012.”
"Spider-Man will always be an important franchise for Sony Pictures and a fresh start like this is a responsibility that we all take very seriously," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. "We have always believed that story comes first and story guides the direction of these films and as we move onto the next chapter, we will stay true to that principle and will do so with the highest respect for the source material and the fans and moviegoers who deserve nothing but the best when it comes to bringing these stories and characters to life on the big screen."

Okay!
Maybe the real reason is they finally realizing that Spider-Man script where he squirts webs out of his..........arms...was a bad thing!,anyone knows that the body does not have enuf liquid to make a squirt that long, not alone to frequently squirt from building to building.
In reality Spider-Man should have dehydrated (like on Scary Movie #1) after the first couple squirts.Or atleast make it believable by showing him drinking water alot.Besides the invention Parker made where he had webbers attached and he had to frequently refil his webbers. And that eliminated him needing a "utility" belt to support his other spider items to support his fight on crime like tracking devices, light or magnesium to make his web flammable to fight Venom and Carnage or electric and ice webs too.
In other words, they screwed up the script from day one.Sad thing is I actually liked Spider-Man 1&2 but 3 killed my LAM fandom of Spidey!

ONLY THING THAT WAS LOST IS.....TIME
THEY RUSHED A PROJECT WITHOUT A COMPLETE SCRIPT. NOW PRODUCTION AND MONEY IS LOST. AND AS MORE TIME PASSES, MORE MONEY IS BEING SPENT ON RENTALS AND SPACE. SO MORE MONEY IS LOST.
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A DIRECTOR DECIDES TO MAKE THE PRODUCTION. KINDA REMINDS US OF TRANSFORMERS AND MICHAEL BAY.
AND THE ONLY ONE MAKING MONEY HERE ARE THE WRITERS.

On a sad note:
This delay will push the Robotech LAM from the year 2019 to the year 2034!
And the delay in the LAM will cause a longer delay of Shadow Rising from the year 2021 til the year 2038
Thanks Tobey!

Raimi will move on to World of Warcraft LAM
Brian Michael Bendis says he can fix Spider-Man 4, Sam Raimi to bow out
By David Bentley on Jan 7, 10 12:55 AM
WITH the screenplay for Spider-Man 4 reported to be in a mess, comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis reckons he is the right man to untangle the web and craft a workable story.
At present, the film's director Sam Raimi is said to hate the script and a fourth writer - Alvin Sargent - has been brought on board to knock it into shape.
Bendis (pictured) said on Twitter that he knows how to fix the story. He also agrees with Sony's idea to make the movie 3D.
The scribe tweeted: "For those who asked, of course I would and could write Spidey 4 in a heartbeat. I know exactly what that movie should be - and it should be 3D."
Bendis has had a long association with the webspinning superhero. He launched the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book series in 2001 and is still its writer.
In addition, he was co-executive producer and pilot writer on Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, which aired in 2003, and scripted Activision's Ultimate Spider-Man game.
He was also a consultant on the movie scripts for Iron Man, Incredible Hulk and Thor.
Spider-Man 4 director Raimi is at loggerheads with studio chiefs at Sony over which villains to put in the movie, leading to the production being put on hold. It's now unlikely to meet its May, 2011, release date.
The filmmaker is insisting on the inclusion of Vulture - a role for which he wants John Malkovich - while the studio dislikes that classic baddie and wants a romantic subplot with female antihero Black Cat instead. Several actresses have been linked to the Black Cat role, notably Anne Hathaway.
Raimi had also wanted Vulture in Spider-Man 3 but he was pressured to feature Venom instead and the resulting film was not well-received by fans and critics.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Raimi returned to helm Spidey 4 in order to leave the series on a high note.
This would mean a new director for the fifth and sixth instalment, which are already in development and are being written by James Vanderbilt, who penned an earlier draft of the fourth film.
Raimi will move on to the big-screen adaptation of video game World of Warcraft.
