Snyder and Nolan have found their Superman!
And his name is ...

blastr.com/2011/01/british-actor-henry-cavil.php

Director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan have found their new Superman—and he's British actor Henry Cavill!

Warner Brothers Pictures and Legendary Pictures sent out an official press release on Sunday, confirming that the 27-year-old actor has landed the coveted role of the Man of Steel and his alter ego, Clark Kent. Snyder said in the statement, "In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Brothers, Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."

Cavill beat out a number of other rumored contenders for the role, including Joe
Manganiello (True Blood), Armie Hammer (The Social Network) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men).

The actor, best known to American audiences for his role in the Showtime series The
Tudors, has actually been up for Superman before. According to Deadline, he was
considered for the role by directors McG and Brett Ratner for the Superman project
they were both attached to at one point. Bryan Singer eventually took over and cast
Brandon Routh for what became Superman Returns.

As with Routh and iconic screen Superman Christopher Reeve, the studio has once
again gone with a lesser known actor for the part. A Warner Brothers executive told
Deadline, "[Cavill]'s got an amazing quality. He doesn't look too much like Reeve
and Routh but he's big and strong and he has a very modern feel to him. We're really
going to try and make Superman as contemporary as possible."

Cavill was also a candidate to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond before Daniel
Craig stepped in, and also auditioned to play Batman for Christopher Nolan. He will
be seen this fall as Theseus in the mythology epic Immortals. Interesting note: Batman, Spider-Man and now Superman are all being played by British actors.

We have yet to find out who will play Lois Lane and who the villain will be, so there's a lot more Superman news to come before the movie arrives in December 2012.

Following the announcement just two weeks ago that she is set to play Superman's adoptive mother, Martha Kent, in the upcoming Zack Snyder reboot, Diane Lane has spoken with USA Weekend about the role.

NOT SURE IF THIS IS OLD NEWS...

IN A WB 300 SEQUEL CALLED XERXES (2013)
nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/02/wa...fers_300_sequel.html

One theory is that Warner Bros. needs Snyder to bear down on Superman stat: Insiders say the closely-guarded script for Superman suffers from major third-act problems, and the studio faces a ticking clock on that franchise, legally speaking; if a Superman film isn’t in production by 2013, Warner Bros. loses the rights to the entire Superman franchise and would have to re-license it from its original creators — the estates of Detective Comics writers Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster — at great if not prohibitive expense.

Viggo Mortensen formally drops out of ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’ Will Zack Snyder now consider him for a villainous role in ‘Superman: Man of Steel’?

screenrant.com/viggo-mortensen-snow-white-superman-rob-107880/

In what’s becoming a very interesting turn of events, Viggo Mortensen has dropped out of Snow White and the Huntsman. Mortensen was seemingly locked to star in the upcoming adaptation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale opposite Twilight star Kristen Stewart and has been in negotiations for the role for quite some time.

Both Stewart and Mortensen had their names associated with lead parts in Superman: Man of Steel and with Mortensen’s schedule free and clear of Snow White, he could be back in the running to play the main villain for Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot.

Variety has the scoop which explains that Mortensen has officially seized negotiations with Universal Pictures, dropping out of the film entirely. With Mortensen being one of the most desired and likeable A-list actors in the business, this is a significant setback for Universal and finding a worthy replacement will be a challenge.

Mortensen has recently been in the running for some of the highest profile gigs in the industry, ranging from the lead part in Ron Howard’s The Dark Tower adaptation (also from Universal Pictures) to the highly buzzed about potential part of Zod in Warner Bros.’ Superman franchise reboot.

WELL, HE COULD PASS AS GENERAL ZOD.

WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE THAT CHARACTER IN THE NEXT SUPERMAN.

Diane Lane Lets Slip 'Superman' Spoiler: Movie Will Chronicle Life From Infancy

blog.moviefone.com/2011/04/14/superman-movie-spoilers/

By: Lucas Kavner

There's always one spoiler, isn't there?

Even after being "locked in a room" with the screenplay for three hours, Diane Lane, who is set to play Martha Kent in Zack Snyder's hush-hush 'Superman' reboot, let it slip to E! Online that the film's trajectory "does cover the entire range of years, from infancy on."

Doesn't she know that any and every detail is precious?

While some might argue that this detail doesn't, in fact, give too much away, we can now safely surmise that the new 'Superman: Man of Steel' film will be like 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' but told in reverse.

The new 'Superman' is set to open around Christmas 2012, unless this slip-up causes Zack Snyder to completely rethink the entire project.
