A second chance... was created by Thoth-Amon
I watched Robotech when it aired back in the early 80's. I recall not caring for The Masters that much. Now over 20 years later I just bought the Collection. I'm sure It will be like watching it for the first time. I'll let you know what I think.

Well Thoth I have to admit that i too watched the series back when it first aired in the 80's and like yourself i didn't really care for the Masters series either. I don't mean to bash it but i too have recently purchased the Protoculture Collection and i am sad to say that even after giving it a second go...i sadly still don't care much for it I guess the Macross Saga just really stuck with me and honestly it was a driving force that led me to joining the Navy and working on the F-14tomcat.(but that's another story and topic) Anyways watching the Series all over again did bring me back to my childhood and awoke the dreamer in me all over again :)Hope it does the same for you....(minus the Masters series lol)

Me too... what kills it for me isn't the story or the music, it's the voice acting. If I could, I'd mute it and watch it with subtitles, but my DVDs are the old Complete Collection ones, so I can't.EVERY CHANCE I GET TO RE SEE THE SEIRES..

I think the Masters saga is ok as it brings some of the bigger issues to the forefront sych as Protoculture and what not, however when compared to the Macross Saga and the New Generation it just throws you off, and I agree with Seto that I think the voice acting is off in the Masters when compared to the others.

I personally didn't like Southern Cross at first, but the last seven episodes or so are definitely some of the best of the entire series.
It's starts out very slow, but when it gets towards the end it hits high gear and is truly magnificent. Better than New Generation in my opinion.

MACROSS SAGA > ROBOTECH MASTERS > NEW GENERATION

I would have to agree. I understand that HG had to work with the animation it had, but I honestly believe they could have done better with the Master's Saga. The ending did make a great segway to the New Generation, Zor destroying the Matrix, and scattering the FOL around the world, making it easier for the Invid to find it on Earth.
Finishing the Sentinals would have helped a lot, the Macross Saga and Masters definately needs a good bridge between them.

Masters(like its original Japanese version also) starts out really show. If you can get through the first 10 episodes of it it will be worth it. The unveiling plot especially in the last 5 episodes is so awesome. Almost more so in the Robotech version since it is the set up for the Invid to come.
