'World War Z' Trailer Tease Footage Includes Brad Pitt, Fast Zombies

In order to ensure that we're all paying attention come Thursday when the full trailer arrives online, the first footage from World War Z has landed online. It's exceedingly teaser-y, but given that it's the first glimpse of Marc Forster's less-than-smoothly-made zombie epic, it's worth checking out.

So far, our relationship to World War Z imagery has consisted of unofficial set photos, but this glimpse is official and everything. It shows off the many zombies in play, all of whom seem to follow the modern tendency of zombies to the quick and vicious, as in 28 Days Later and that Dawn of the Dead remake. Here, however, there are so many of the undead that they frequently form a sort of mass organism like ants.

The book on which World War Z is based is Max Brooks's fictitious oral history of the zombie pandemic, a United Nation historian's compilation of individual stories from all over the world well after the almost apocalypse. We've known for some time that the movie version would find Brad Pitt racing around the globe to stop the undead rather than ambling around post-war, collecting tales from survivors. This tease confirms that, with Pitt forced away from his wife and child in order to save the day.

The embed below is here thanks to the good folks at Ace Showbiz, but obviously it debuted at Entertainment Tonight.

World War Z has been the subject of some exceedingly public troubles. The film, directed by Quantum of Solace and Finding Neverland helmer Marc Forster, was forced to undergo a whopping seven weeks of reshoots and a delayed release.

Matthew Michael Carnahan and comic book scribe J. Michael Straczynski contributed drafts of the screenplay prior to principal photography, but those reshoots were apparently extensive enough that Paramount Pictures called on a new writer to reshape the film's third act. Initial reports had Lost architect and Prometheus co-writer Damon Lindelof coming aboard to rewrite the last chunk, but his busy schedule meant that The Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard ended up doing most of the rewriting.

With Pitt in the lead role, the cast also includes Mireille Enos, David Morse, James Badge Dale, and Matthew Fox.
