TERMINATOR 5 ???? was created by MEMO1DOMINION

‘Fast and the Furious’ franchise director Justin Lin has admitted it is possible that Vin Diesel could star in ‘Terminator 5′ – but will the project actually happen?

Justin Lin’s revelation that he has discussed a fifth Terminator movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger certainly got fans riled up last week. So the potential involvement of the Fast and the Furious franchise helmer with Terminator 5 raises an interesting question: does that mean Lin’s pal and frequent leading man, Vin Diesel, could appear in the film too?

This is, of course, nothing more than preliminary talk and speculation since Terminator 5 with Lin as the director isn’t even a “thing” at this point. But still – would his Fast Five star be along for the ride (sorry, bad pun), if it happens?

Lin spoke with Moviehole about the matter and his answer was unsurprisingly non-committal:

“Vin’s been a really great partner on [the 'Fast and the Furious'] franchise. We’ve talked about the mythology [of the Terminator series]… he’s a great guy and a great actor. I really like working with him so anything I do I usually talk to him about. Sometimes we even talk about going back and doing a little indy movie.”

The only “given” at this point, with respect to Terminator 5, seems to be that it’ll feature Schwarzenegger in some capacity – possibly playing the original human that the T-800 model Terminator was modeled on. Terminator: Salvation set the stage for future films to chronicle humanity’s war against Skynet post-Judgement Day, but it’s possible that the series could move away from the story of John Connor (as played by Christian Bale in Salvation) and focus on other characters in the Terminator universe.

Like Schwarzenegger in his prime as a movie star, Vin Diesel’s specialty is arguably that of mindless and over-the-top action flicks (see: xXx, The Chronicles of Riddick, or any of his Fast and the Furious movies). That’s not to say they all turn out to be successful popcorn flicks (Babylon A.D., anyone?), but Diesel makes for a solid action hero onscreen and he definitely has more than his share of fans. So the idea of him playing a role in Terminator 5 should sit well with a number of moviegoers.

The bigger issue right now is whether or not everyone really wants to see another Terminator movie. Most fans seem to fall into one of two camps in this regard: those that haven’t been all that impressed with the franchise since Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and are fine with it being laid to rest, and those who want to see Schwarzenegger back in the game – with an action genre specialist like Lin calling the shots on Terminator 5.

Whether or not a fifth Terminator movie will happen, regardless of demand, is a slightly different matter. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Salvation were both expensive ventures ($200 million cost for each), but they made enough worldwide in theaters alone to keep the franchise alive. So Terminator 5 still has a strong chance of actually being made.

That said – would you like to see Vin Diesel in Terminator 5?

Justin Lin Confirms ‘Terminator 5′ Talk With Schwarzenegger

‘Fast Five’ helmer Justin Lin has confirmed that he and Arnold Schwarzenegger have discussed making a new ‘Terminator’ movie. Does that sound like a good idea?

Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger is back (sorry, couldn’t resist) to acting, rumors about Terminator 5 happening are as popular as ever. The (former) action star previously confirmed that the Terminator franchise is one of several that he’s been approached to revisit, but did not elaborate on how substantial said talks about the series are.

Now Fast and the Furious franchise helmer Justin Lin has spoken out on the subject, revealing that he and Schwarzenegger have held multiple discussions about Terminator 5. Whether anything will come of it, however, isn’t something Lin is so sure about.

Here’s what Lin told Omelete about a fifth Terminator flick:

“I feel I have a take that I would love to see, and I’ve talked with Arnold and we’ve talked and we’ll see. Again, I would love to do it, but it has to be the right circumstances. It has to be the right people. And there’s other projects too. But I’m in a position now that I can choose more than I could a year ago, two years ago. So that is something that is potentially in my future, but when I get home I will sit down and look at my options and choose what I want to do.”

Lin’s Fast Five hits theaters in two weeks’ time and is expected to (pardon the pun) tear it up at the box office. So while Lin will likely be courted to helm the next installment in that franchise, he’ll also be in a better position to convince studio heads that he’s the man to resurrect the Terminator series… once again. But that, of course, raises the real million dollar question: Should there even be a Terminator 5?

Like (just about) everyone else, I wasn’t exactly blown away with director McG’s Terminator: Salvation; the film just didn’t leave me interested in seeing the sci-fi franchise continue. But if there’s one thing Hollywood seems to be in love with nowadays, it’s rebooting “dead” franchises, be it The Crow, Lethal Weapon, the Alex Cross and Jack Ryan series – heck, even a cash-cow like the Spider-Man film series is getting the reboot treatment.

Salvation did excel in the department of visual effects and stylish action, and a filmmaker like Lin could easily go above and beyond in that area with Terminator 5. It could be interesting (“could” is the key word there) to see the Terminator series continue on and further explore the world of post-Judgement Day Earth, but that would require future installments to return to the more thoughtful and humane tone of James Cameron’s Terminator movies – and I’m not sure I see someone like Lin being up to that challenge.

Schwarzenegger is clearly serious about making a comeback as an actor, and he doesn’t sound all that hesitant about milking his previous hits in order to jump-start his career again. He’s already got new material like The Governator (as surreal as it looks) moving forward, so maybe another entry in the Terminator franchise will be put on the backburner while Schwarzenegger pursues more original projects. I wouldn’t count on it, but it’s still possible…for now.

‘Terminator 5′ is now being shopped around to several studios and Arnold Schwarzenegger is officially attached to star in the film

screenrant.com/arnold-schwarzenegger-ter...icial-schrad-112488/

The hedge fund company Pacificor acquired the rights to the Terminator series last year and it was made clear that they were under no obligation to continue on with the trilogy that Terminator Salvation was intended to start. At this point, it’s still unclear which direction future installments might take or how they’re going to navigate through the increasingly convoluted continuity.

Schwarzenegger was immediately inundated with offers after leaving office and Terminator 5 was one of the first projects he was rumored to be eyeing. Evidently, his desire to step back in front of the camera convinced Universal that this was the right time to relaunch the iconic franchise. They quickly tossed Fast Five director Justin Lin into the mix – and Lin later confirmed that he spoke with Schwarzenegger about appearing in the film.

Pacificor is now looking to finalize a deal for the financing and distribution of Terminator 5 and they’ve been shopping the project around to several studios. Lin is still attached to direct, but according to Deadline the real selling point is that Schwarzenegger is now officially on board as well.

Fast Five scribe Chris Morgan was reportedly involved with Terminator 5 at one point, but it looks like the film is currently without a writer. Robert Cort (Runaway Bride, Save the Last Dance) will produce and Deadline claims that Universal, Sony, and Lionsgate are already giving serious consideration to Pacificor’s package.

Schwarzenegger has been linked to several other films including Ji-Woon Kim’s The Last Stand and Antoine Fuqua’s The Tomb. There’s also the upcoming Governator animated series, comic book, and 3D feature film. The Terminator remains his most iconic character, however, and Terminator 5 would arguably put him back in the spotlight in a much more dramatic fashion.

Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Films has secured the screen rights for two more ‘Terminator’ movies.

screenrant.com/terminator-5-rights-annap...-films-sandy-115165/

Megan Ellison (daughter and heiress to Oracle founder Larry Ellison) and her Annapurna Films production body have now reportedly beaten out the likes of Lionsgate in an auction for the screen rights to both Terminator 5 and Terminator 6. Deadline has pointed out that since Ellison made the bid without a studio yet attached to distribute a fifth Terminator pic, it could feasibly become “the hottest title in the [Cannes] sales market.”

Ellison began her production career off with a bang by providing financing for last year’s True Grit; she has been highly active since then, moving on to secure deals to work behind the scenes on P.T. Anderson’s next film (formerly known as The Master) and Katherine Bigelow’s Kill Bin Laden project. So her grabbing the rights to a fifth Terminator flick only increases the likelihood of the film being made sooner rather than later.

They need to put a timelock on the Terminator franchise. Yeah, I know it will at least break even if the budget isn't too big and if it gets good buzz it will make them a nice profit.
