Creator Terasawa to write, direct video version; director Dezaki to do same for TV

The official website for manga creator Buichi Terasawa (Goku - Midnight Eye, Kabuto) has confirmed that the recently announced Cobra the Space Pirate animation project will come in two forms: an original anime video (OVA) project and a television project. Terasawa will write, storyboard, and direct the OVA version. Veteran director Osamu Dezaki (Bionic Six, Black Jack The Movie, Golgo 13: The Professional) will write, storyboard, and direct the television version with the animators of Magic Bus. The projects will mark the 30th anniversary of Terasawa's original 1978 Cobra science-fiction pulp manga about a pirate and his female android partner. Dezaki directed the 1982 animated film adaptation and the 1982-1983 animated remake.

2nd video project to join previously announced new video series, new TV show

A second new video series for Buichi Terasawa's 1978-1984 Space Adventure Cobra science-fiction pulp manga has been greenlit for production. A separate new video series and new television series was already announced. The first video series, the four-part Cobra the Animation, will feature Nachi Nozawa as the title character Cobra and Yoshiko Sakakibara as his partner Armoroid Lady. Nozawa and Sakakibara played the same roles in the classic 1982-1983 television series. Terasawa himself will write and direct this version, with collaboration by Kenichi Maejima on the storyboards and episode direction. Shichiro Kobayashi will oversee the art from the animators at Magic Bus. The first volume goes on sale in Japan on August 28.

A separate two-volume video project will follow, and then the story will return to television in yet another series. Acclaimed director Osamu Dezaki (Bionic Six, Black Jack The Movie, Golgo 13: The Professional, Ultraviolet: Code 044) was previously slated to write, storyboard, and direct the television version with Magic Bus.
