for the past week ive been binge watching the second macross saga of Robotech and tonight i have the last episode to watch.
Characters are ok mostly Dana Sterling and that tech geek Louie.
the rest of the characters theyre not bad but theyre not great like rick or Roy or Lin Mei

FOR ME IT DRAGGED A FEW EPISODES BUT THE HARDCORE STUFF REALLY TIES EVERYTHING TO WHAT ROBOTECH IS.

I take it we're talking of 'The Robotech Masters'?
It's both more in line with 'Macross' in the sence that it starts at a recognizable Earth in the near future ('New generation' is much darker) as well as the odd one out. The latter in the sence that most characters act like high school teenagers instead of young adults.
