Macross metephor for WW II Japan? was created by Peter Young
Does any one know if the original Macross/Macross Saga had been intended as a metaphore for Japan after WW II?
Japan had been dominated by a warrior elite for centuries, but its society became a military state during the 1930s. Both the global unification and the Zentraedi being a society solely focused on warfare could refer to this.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki = Reign of Death and/or explosion of nearly all Zentraedi vessels?
The Zentraedi taken in by mankind on Earth = Japan being democratised by the USA after WW II?

I have never come across something that explicitly confirms or comes close to confirming if Macross/Macross Saga was intended as a metaphor of such. Intent notwithstanding I think it's a somewhat interesting metaphor to draw from it all.
