So what do you all think of Macross Delta so far? I watched the preview, Episode 1 and 2 last night and I actually enjoyed them all. I will say that the broadcast version of Episode 1 was more enjoyable than the Preview was, although it wasn't all that different until the final scenes. I'm cautiously optimistic that I will enjoy the rest of the show, although I am concerned about the whole singing battle girls angle for the show, but then again, I'm talking Macross here, so I shouldn't be surprised that they've now combined singing, giant mecha and powered skirts into one show.
One thing that irks me about the whole singing combat girls thing is that, at least initially, they're putting on a show in the middle of a battle, while missiles and laser beams and giant battlepods are flying around, but they're not encouraging the citizens to go to a shelter. I don't know about you, but even if they had all those defensive flying boomerangs around, I'd still be running towards a shelter, not waiting for the next performance. I don't actually mind the idea that they can use singing to calm and seemingly cure this Var outbreak, since we were introduced to the idea of communicating via fold waves in Macross Frontier.
I've yet to come up with any firm impressions of the characters thus far, but I like the Captain the most so far. He reminds me of Wreck-it Ralph when he holds his coffee. Still working on the others.

Currently seen up to episode 4 and honestly it's MEH at best.
So far it has the inclinations of American Idol applied to Macross and with all the girls applying make up prior to battle I keep getting the impression whenever the Zentraedi's are crying out "Deculture!!" the Walkure ladies are saying "No, maybe it's maybelline!" Lol!

I guess the Macross "theme" is girls singing during battle, and anything else wouldn't be what people expect from a Macross story. Trying to recapture the magic of the original and all that.

I don't think the show is doing any favours with the Sailor Moon concept applied to idol singing when applied to Macross battles. It's too much and it shows with this series. Hopefully it'll get better but I'm not betting on that!
