"Ozma Meets Fire Bomber" is part of Macross 7 Project in Macross 30th Anniversary



An insert in this week's Blu-ray Hybrid Pack release of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? revealed that the Macross FB 7 project will play in theaters this fall. The insert carries the tagline "Ozma Meets Fire Bomber."

The official website for the 30th anniversary of the Macross science-fiction romance franchise had confirmed in May that a "Macross 7 Project" lineup is launching as part of the anniversary celebrations. As revealed in a promotional video that played in this past spring's Macross events, the "Macross 7 Project" has three phases: a Blu-ray Disc release of the 1994-1995 Macross 7 television anime, a Fire Bomber live concert, and the tentatively titled Macross FB 7.

The details of Macross FB 7 have not been revealed, including whether it is even an anime or not. Fire Bomber is the rock band that plays a pivotal role in the Macross 7 anime (set in the year 2045). Ozma Lee is a leader of variable fighter pilots in the 2008 Macross Frontier television anime (set in the year 2059), and he reveals early on that he is a Fire Bomber fan.

As I suspected, it's most likely going to be a one-off OVA, with this screening being a promotional event like the Yamato 2199 ones. Still no clear details, though.

Macross FB 7 'Hybrid Rock Anime' Project Outlined

Macross FB 7: Ore no Uta o Kike!, the newest work in the science-fiction romance anime franchise Macross, will start playing in 17 theaters throughout Japan on October 20. The 90-minute title takes remastered and re-edited footage from the Macross 7 television series and combines it with brand-new Macross Frontier footage to create a "completely new form of entertainment." The "hybrid rock anime" is billed as a "miraculous duet" between the two parts of the Macross franchise.

The story is set in 2059, five decades after the Space War I conflict seen in the first Macross story. Macross Frontier, the 25th New Macross Class super-long-distance colonization fleet, is journeying through the galaxy to a new paradise to call home. However, it is locked in a state of war with a strange enemy called Vajra.

Ozma Lee (Katsuyuki Konishi), the leader of the S.M.S. Skull Team that is fighting the Vajra on the frontlines, encounters a mysterious lifeform, different from even the Vajra, one day. This mysterious lifeform shares visual memories of a certain other colonization fleet with Ozma and two other Macross Frontier characters, Ranka (Megumi Nakajima) and Sheryl (Aya Endo).

Tetsuro Amino, the director of the original Macross 7 anime, is writing and directing the new project at Satelight with assistant director Takao Abo (Lunar Legend Tsukihime, Macross Frontier) and animation director Osamu Horiuchi (Full Metal Panic! franchise). Character designers Risa Ebata and Yûichi Takahashi are returning from Macross Frontier for the new work.

In addition to Konishi, Nakajima, and Endo, Kenta Miyake (Bobby Margot), Jun Fukuyama (Luca Angeloni), Hiroshi Kamiya (Mikhail Blanc), Megumi Toyoguchi (Klan Klang), and Houko Kuwashima (Canaria Berstein) reprise their respective roles from Macross Frontier.

NOT SURE BUT THOUGHT THIS COMBINING ANIMATIONS WERE DONE BEFORE. WAS IT NOT DONE FOR GUNDAM?

MAYBE I AM WRONG BUT FOR ME THIS MEANS NEW ANIMATION. EITHER M7 OR MF OR MAYBE BOTH. SINCE IT DOES SAY NEW ENEMY FOR OZMA, YOU FIGURE IT WILL BE NEW ANIMATION SINCE HE WILL ENCOUNTER THIS ENEMY FROM M7.
