Your favorite movie? was created by LadyGrimes

What is your all time favorite movie?

mine is John Carpenter's The Thing, it's just a really good movie that keeps you at the edge of your seat, not to mention it had some really great special effects of its time, even compared to todays CG.

so come on, let's hear from the rest of you =)

My favorite movie is El Topo, which was directed by the Chilean filmmaker, performer, and artist Alejandro Jodorowsky. I love how the movie takes the Western genre and transmogrifies it into a bizarre quest for enlightenment. I find it so powerful and moving, and I take something new from it every time I see it.

I've never heard of it, so I might just check it out, it does sound interesting.

It's first major release was in 1970, and the only way to see it until 2007 was in midnight showings at art theaters or on bootlegs. Thankfully, we now have a nice DVD release of El Topo. Some of the DVDs come in a special edition box set with two of Jodorowsky's other movies, Fando y Lis and The Holy Mountain.

The original or the new remake?

It's pretty cool that two John Carpenter movies have already been mentioned. He's a really good B-Movie director. One of my favorites.
