OK GUYS.

MEETING OVER WITH HG ON THURSDAY.
AS OF RIGHT NOW, HG IS STILL FAR FROM ANYTHING SPECIFIC ON TEH 25TH ANIVERSARY ROBOTECH CON.

THEY WILL BE TIED UP WITH PRODUCTION AND KEVIN INFORMED ME THAT HE WILL BE DOING THE CONVENTION CICUIT AS WELL. SO ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE AND MIGHT LEAVE THE FANS WONDERING IF IT MIGHT HAPPEN OR NOT. LETS HOPE HG HAS SOMETHING SET ANYTIME NEXT YEAR.

SO WHAT IT LEAVES WITH A HUGE FAN GATHERING? A ROBOTECH CON WORTH OF THE ROBOTECH FANDOM?

WELL, LAST SUCCESFULL CON WAS THE 10 ANIVERSARY HELD IN LOS ANGELES AND THAT WAS AT THE PEAK OF ROBOTECH. AND THE 20 ANIVERSARY WAS PRITTY WELL AND COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER FOR THE 25TH HELD AT ANIME EXPO....

BUT THINGS CHANGE AND ANIME EXPO CHANGED AS WELL.

SO THERE MIGHT BE HOPE YET...

AS OF LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS WHILE WORKING TO SET UP THE ROBOTECH PARTY, I BEEN INQUIRING ABOUT A 25TH ROBOTECH ANIVERSARY CON AS WELL. BEEN LOOKING AT HOTELS AND EVEN EVENT CONFRENCE BALLROOMS IN ANY LOCAL.

IT WILL BE COSTLY AND RUN UP THE BILL AND THATS WITH NO GARANTY FOR FANS TO HELP COVER THE COST EVEN WITH A PAID FEE AT THE DOOR TO COVER A COST RANGING FROM 3000 TO 10,000 AND UP.

AS YOU GUYS KNOW, I ALSO RUN FANEXPO... NOT HERE BUT IN OTHER COUNTRYS. A SCI FI CONVENTION THAT OFFERS FANS OF DIFFERENT GONRA OF SCIFI LIKE, TREKKIES, STAR WARS, GALACTICA, ROBOTECH, MEDIVAL TOURNAMENT, BABYLON, ETC.

SO I THINK "WHY NOT A FANEXPO HERE IN SOUTH CAL?"
AND GUYS, I THINK I HAVE FOUND A HOTEL TO START ON THIS VENTURE OF OPENING A CONVENTION DEDICATED TO TEH FANDOM AND THEIR ORGANIZATIONS OR COMMUNITYS.

THE HOTEL IS IN ANEHIM NEAR DISNEYLAND AND I WILL BE ORGANIZING THIS EVENT. I HAVE BEEN IN TALKS WITH TEH HOTEL MANAGEMENT AND WE ARE WORKING OUT THE DETAILS.

I WILL GRADLEY INVOLVE ANY ONE WHO WANTS FROM TEH ROBOTECH COMMUNITY TO HELP THEM GIVE A VENUE FOR A ROBOTECH 25TH ANIVERSARY BASH UNDER THIS CONVENTION. THE ONLY COST WOULD BE TEH BADGES AND IT WILL PAY FOR 2 DAYS OF THE EVENT. WICH WILL RUN UN A WEEKEND.

NOW FOR FANEXPO ITSELF I AM CURRENTLY ORGANIZING TEH COMMETE THAT WILL WORK FOR FANEXPO. BUT THERE SHOULD ALSO BE A SUBCOMMETE TO ORGANIZE ROBOTECH 25 ANIVERSARY.

I WILL SEE IF OTHER FANGROUPS ARE WILLING TO JOIN TEH CONVENTION. IF YOU GUYS KNOW OF ANY TREKKIE FANS OF STAR WARS FANS AND EVEN MACROSS FANS, ETC, ETC LET THEM KNOW OF THIS CONVENTION BEING IN THE WORKS.

SO, TEH ROBOTECH 25TH ANIVERSARY WILL NEED HELP TO COME TO FRUTATION ADN IT WILL BE UP TO US AS FANS TO FIND A WAY TO COVER SOME OF THE COST FOR SPECIAL THINGS LIKE A MICHALE BRADLEY CONCERT.

AND THEN, WE HOPE WE CAN GET HG TO HELP AND OR DONATE WHAT IT CAN FOR ROBOTECH COST.

WE ARE WORKING ON TEH FANEXPO PAGE AND THE BUSNISS AS OF NOW.
SO WILL LET YOU GUSY KNOW WHEN TEH PAGE IS RUNNING.

NOW FOR THE DATES.
I BEEN TOLD BY THE HOTEL AND BEEN GIVIN INFORMATION ON WHAT IS PRACTICAL AND LESS COSTLY AND WHEN I COULD FIT IN TEH DATES. AND THATS BETWEEN FEBUARY AND MAY OF 2010.

SO SHOOT ME SOME DATES AND WHY SO I CAN BETTER ACOMIDATE THE CON.

THANX TO ALL AND WILL KEEP IN TOUCH.

Hey Memo,

What were you trying to do with Anime Expo and what has changed that you can't do that?

As for Michael Bradley performing...have you looked at local bars/clubs for his performance? The only problem with this is that it would be unlikely to find a place that allowed kids. You could at least make a deal with a bar that would have the space.

There's also a bunch of warehouses/lofts that rent out event space in downtown Los Angeles. I don't know which would fall into budget and also meet the needs for the event though.

Is it possible to have some sort of fundraiser for the event? I know we don't have many options for Robotech merch. Can we get people to do fan art or cosplay? We could always resort to the website with a cause approach. Set up a website where you collect money. Maybe offer some incentives to donating money?

WELL, AT THE 20 ANIVERSARY, ANIME EXPO TRIED TO CHANGED A COUPLE OF THINGS AT THE LAST MINUTE. AND RULES THAT WERE NOT TALKED ABOUT BEFORE THE CON DATES. THATS SOMETHING SET UP BETWEEN HG RP, TOM BATEMAN AND KEVIN MCEEVER. FROM WHAT WE HEARD AT THE PARTY, NEGOTIATIONS THAT WERE HELD WITH THE CON STAFF CHANGED AND WOULD AFFECT A 25TH ANIVERSARY. HOW BAD? I DONT KNOW. BUT HG IS NOT COUNTING WITH AX TO WORK SOMETHING OUT. OR IT COULD BE COSTLY. BUT I DONT KNOW THE EXACT ISSUES. JUST THAT 2010 AX MIGHT JUST BE A PANEL.

ANOTHER THING IS ITS IN DOWNTOWN AND AX HAS CHANGED SINCE THEN. EVEN DEALERS THAT WERE ALWAYS THERE HAVE STARTED LEAVING THE CON. TO COSTLY AND A BAD VENUE FOR MANY. AND CONSIDERING THE CHANGE IN THE INTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY, NO ONE IS SPENDING MUCH MONEY. LAST YEAR THERE WERE A LOT OF THINGS MISSING. EVEN ADV IS DOWNSIZING.

SO IT COULD ACTUALLY BE COSTLY FOR HG.

WE CAN BUT ITS COSTLY FOR A WHOLE BAND. ALREADY TALKED TO MICHALE AND THE FIGURES ARE GOOD BUT JUST THAT WE GET ABOUT MAYBE 20 MEMBERS AND THAT WOULD NOT COVER THE COST. SO YOU REALLY DONT HAVE A GARANTEE. THEN YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR INSURANCE AT A BAR. USUALLY THE BAR PAYS THE BAND. AND THE FANS GET IN FOR FREE. JUST BUY THE BEER. BUT FOR A PRIVATE PARTY AND SERVERS IT REALLY UP THERE IN COST. AND YOU NEED MORE THAN 45 PEOPLE DRINKING CONSTANTLY AND A COVER CHARGE AT THE DOOR.

There's also a bunch of warehouses/lofts that rent out event space in downtown Los Angeles. I don't know which would fall into budget and also meet the needs for the event though.

PROBLEM IS YOU ARE IN A BAD AREA. I THOUGHT OF L.A. SHRINE YOU KNOW. HOOKING UP WITH THEM AND GEETING INVITES. LIKE THEY DID THAT ONE YEAR ON DECEMBER. BUT IT WAS HG WHO PAYED THE VOICE ACTORS. AND FOR ME TO PAY FOR THEM I WOULD NEED TO JUST COVER THE BASIC OF 500 DLRS OR SO PER APPEARNCE. AND THATS WITHOUT THE COVER CHARGE AT THE DOOR.

Is it possible to have some sort of fundraiser for the event? I know we don't have many options for Robotech merch. Can we get people to do fan art or cosplay? I TALKE DTO HG ABOUT THIS. RIGHT NOW IS A NO.
ESPECIALLY SINCE WE DOING IT FOR THE PARTY. WE NOT SELLING ANYTHING YOU KNOW. HG WONT ALLOW US TO SELL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL OF EITHER MACROSS OR ROBOTECH. WHY I GIVING THINGS AT THE DOOR FOR A SIMPLE DONATION TO THE PARTY TO COVER FOR THE COST. AT LEATS I AM SAFE THERE BUT COULD DRAW HG EYES IF I GO IN A SELLING FRENZY.

BUT IF I WENT WITH A CONVENTION, THEN HG WILL SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO. THEY KNOW I CAN DO IT. THEY WORRY IT MIGHT BREAK MY PIGGY BANK. BECOUSE OF THE COST. BUT SINCE I BEEN TRYING TO BREAK IN A CONVENTION IN CALIFORNIA, AN DI BEEN TRYING TO OPEN A ANIME CON IN SAN DIEGO SICNE 2005, WELL THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO WITH A YEARLY CON HAS APPEARED. SINCE I WILL RUN IT, THEN I CAN GIVE MORE FREADOM TO THE ROBOTECH COMMUNITY. ITS GREEDY CONVENTIONS THAT HAVE RESTRICTIONS. BUT WE CAN THEN NOW HAVE A YEARLY ROBOTECH GATHERING WITH ROBOTECH THEMES. AND WE COULD SHARE WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIOSN OF OTHER FANDOM COMMUNITYS.

HERE, WE CAN HAVE BANDS AND STUFF. SO I AM WORKING AROUND IDEAS ON THAT SUBJECT.

That's true. The LACC is a bit more expensive than other locations. Not to mention the LACC is a pain in the butt =P Last year was the first time that AX was at the LACC, so expect changes to come. I'm surprised that even if HG can't do something at the con that they do something in the area around con time. The economy isn't doing so well, so it might not be feasible for them to shell out money for anything though.

WE CAN BUT ITS COSTLY FOR A WHOLE BAND. ALREADY TALKED TO MICHALE AND THE FIGURES ARE GOOD BUT JUST THAT WE GET ABOUT MAYBE 20 MEMBERS AND THAT WOULD NOT COVER THE COST. Even small venues? I've never tried to put something like this together, but I know a few local bands that play in local joints. Although usually shows have a couple of bands playing. I guess if you rented out the place for a private party it could be an issue, but I don't see reason to make it private. Having a small cover charge isn't a big deal. It's almost the norm for most venues with shows. It makes more sense to put it all together at a con, but I'm just curious of other logistics.

PROBLEM IS YOU ARE IN A BAD AREA. I THOUGHT OF L.A. SHRINE YOU KNOW. HOOKING UP WITH THEM AND GEETING INVITES. LIKE THEY DID THAT ONE YEAR ON DECEMBER. BUT IT WAS HG WHO PAYED THE VOICE ACTORS. My block is safe :P Where the warehouses or lofts are for events could be dangerous at night though. If you have this other con wouldn't you still have to pay for the voice actors or are you assuming that because the con will be more broad interest that it will get more money to pay for the VAs?

I figured this would be an issue =/ You would have to find alternative ways to earn money. There's not a big enough local fanbase for any sort of fundraisers.

BUT IF I WENT WITH A CONVENTION, THEN HG WILL SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO. THEY KNOW I CAN DO IT. THEY WORRY IT MIGHT BREAK MY PIGGY BANK. BECOUSE OF THE COST. Sometimes you have to put in a lot of effort and money before something becomes successful.

Personally I don't see any conventions as being greedy(although I've only been involved in a few conventions and not for a very long time). I'm not saying that they all are run perfectly and that they pay attention to the smaller groups of fans.

Anyways I need to show up to one of your gatherings, so I can find out more and maybe be helpful too.

I WOULD PAY FOR THE VOICE ACTORS. SO IN REALLITY I COULD ONLY AFFORD MAYBE A FEW AND WOULD TAKE UP THE COST FROM THE TICKET REVENUE. AS SMALL AS TEH CON MIGHT BE, IT WILL ONLY AFFORD SO MANNY GUEST. SINCE WE HAVE TO INCLUDE THE OTHER FANDOM GROUPS WE HAVE TO ALSO LET THEM HAVE THEIR GUESTS AS WELL. BUT THERE ARE SOME COMPANYS THAT MIGHT HELP FUND INVITES. I AM ALSO HOPING THAT IN TH ELONG RUN, HG MIGHT BE ABLE TO DONATE A VOICE ACTOR OR 2. LETS SAY WE CAN GIVE SOMETHING IN RETURN. YOU KNOW, HEALP EACH OTHER OUT.

WHEN I DID FANEXPO CHILE HG WAS ABLE TO HELP OUT IN THE END. TOM BATEMAN AND TOMMY YUNE WERE THERE HELPING OUT. AS REPS OF HG YOU COULD SAY IT HELPED THEIR INTREST. TOM MADE SURE WE HAD TOYS TO GIVE AWAY AS PRIZES.

HEHEHE

I REMEMBER A ALPHA WAS AUCTION OFF TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE CON.
HEHEHE

SOME COMPANYS ESPECIALLY DUBBING COMPANYS WORK WITH THE VOICE ACTORS AND WOULD BE NICE IF THEY COULD ALSO DONATE THE APPEARANCE FEE OF A GUEST. USUALLY HOW THINGS WORK. WE GIVE THE SAID COMPANY A PANELTIME TO PROMOTE THEIR PRODUCT OR LOW CHARGE FOR SPACE RENT.

THINGS LIKE THAT.

Anyways I need to show up to one of your gatherings, so I can find out more and maybe be helpful too.

LET ME KNOW WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR ME TO SHOOT UP THERE. SOMETIMES I TRAVEL BETWEEN FRIENDS TO HAVE THESE COMMUNITY CHATS.

LET ME KNOW.
