When was this implied? It wasn't in the Sentinels and The Macross Saga seems to imply that the Zentraedi that attacked Earth were the entirety of their species. Also, in The New Generation, Scott implies that the Zentraedi have been practically extinct for some time.

Granted, there were remaining Zetraedi in the original Macross, but that's Macross. This is Robotech.

Please refer to RT: Masters Saga, which mentions a certain space pirates & rogue Micronised Zentraedi as a specific threat. Logical extrapolation, should any space pirates would terrorising deep space lanes or offworld colonies, certainly protoculture supplies would be the main target. One can single out rogue Zents surviving on meagre supplies of PC to make frequent raids to space trade routes or PC deep space supply depots to replenish themselves with much needed PC.

One more thing, obviously RT II: Sentinels animation. During holographic simulation training, Jack Baker piloting an Alpha against Zentraedi nemesis. Why would UEEF personnels trained on vanquishing Zentraedis before Pioneer Expedition? Chances are, there's still a significant rogue Zent threats somewhere in deep space during UEEF long exploration into the vast Masters empire.

Zentraedi may be 'culturally' extinct, in effect, they're successfully assimilated & integrated into human society in more than 2 decades (from 2015 - 2044). Case noted, Sentinel animation & Prelude to The Shadow Chronicles comic series.

I suppose that could make sense, but most Robotech timelines have the Cyclone being developed during the Pioneer Mission, so there's no reason they couldn't of based the design on the hovercycle.

Unfortunately, there's no VR Cyclone Rider with hovercycle variant ever existed. Besides, in Battloid mode, any Cyclones are capable of hover & limited flight capabilities.

True.

In Mospeada, the Ride Armor (Cyclone in Robotech) was an emergency auxiliary mecha for use if the Legios crashed. So maybe then in Robotech the Cyclone serves the same purpose for the Alpha fighter, and therefore doesn't necessarily employ cutting edge technology because it's not intended for prolonged use, only for emergencies.

While Cyclone serves as emergency vehicles for UEEF VFA-6 Alpha & SFA-05 Conbat Fighter pilots, VR Cyclone Rider series primarily a main combat surface mecha for UEEF light infantry units, as shown in the final siege on Optera by UEEF armada in showdown between Edward's controlled Invid & of course, as part of larger ground component of UEEF 1st Attack Group that besieging Reflex Point.

UEEF Army & Marines plus UEEF Special Forces are main user of Cyclone Variable combat system.

I have to admit that the VF1A did bring me in,the RT universe...and the Cyclones kept me there. Amazing machines, and great imagination...those who came up with the idea.
