Robotech 3000 was created by Lobizon
Story and development
The story was based during an era of peace under an interplanetary federation a thousand years in the future, supposedly to avoid conflicts with Robotech's convoluted continuity.
Some of the new concepts presented were Veritech Excavators, Proteus-group starships, but none of the trademark anime-look and transformable mecha of the earlier series were ever seen. The response to the Robotech 3000 promotional trailer at the 2000 FanimeCon anime convention was disastrous. Much of the negative feedback concerned the distinctive artistic style of the original anime series being replaced by generic CGI characters in a style that resembled ReBoot. By the 2000 San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the CG project had been canceled as American animation studio Netter Digital hit hard times.
An attempt was made to salvage the series as an anime-style production at Tatsunoko Productions (the original Japanese studio that animated Robotech) and some pre-production art was produced, but this too was cancelled as a new regime of staffers joined Harmony Gold to once again reboot the Robotech franchise and begin development on Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles.
Release on DVD
Though Robotech 3000 seemed to have fallen victim to the "Sentinels Curse," the trailer was finally released as part of a collector's edition DVD of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles on November 20, 2007.

From what i saw of the trailers, i think RT3K would not have helped the franchise in any way. It came off as a very generic sci-fi series just with clunkly CGI. I am personally glad it never made it.

No argument here, Mac. I remember the uproar that was a result of the preview.
People I knew were so disgusted with it that they gave thier RT vids away, and swore to never patronize the franchize again.
Not that I can blame 'em... It's a pretty sad presentation.

Do you suppose that if the promotional clip featured at least one jet that transforms into a robot type mecha, it might have been at least tolerated?
That's what one of the two main problems was. There was NOTHING that was recognizable as "Robotech".
None of the characters that the fans cared about.
No transforming mecha.
It really did look like they just put together some mediocre sci-fi and slapped the name "Robotech" on it.
The other main problem IMO, was the CGI. Enough said. I wonder if the fan response would have been so severely negative if you took the EXACT same thing, but had it animated in anime style???
Now, having listened to a couple of podcast interviews with Carl Macek, I find myself mildly curious where RT3K would have gone.
Once you get over the disappointment that it completely abandoned all the characters and traits that the fans love, the premis, as far as I understand it, actually sounded like a plausible evolution of the RT story.
The protoculture itself evolves and becomes conscious and proceeds to act on it's own agenda.
Being set so far in the future, once all of us fans get our fix with having closure with the characters we love, something like RT3K might not be so dejected.
Now, I'm NOT Khyron Prime and trying to start some crusade on behalf of RT3K!
I'm just saying that once I learned of Carl Macek's intentions with the story, it could be something explored some day in the future.
The promotional clip was like a suicide pill for this concept.
