Okay, so a station commander with a star ship has more luck finding a fleet of ships than most ship captains. He doesn't need a cookie, he needs hazard pay, lots and lots of hazard pay.

Been wondering for a few weeks who would be my favourite characters. For several reasons I find that hard to answer.

First, the three main characters of the Macross Saga (and in a way, de facto of Robotech all together) - Rick, Lisa and Minmai - developed over the course of the Macross Saga. And in the Sentinels movie, which takes place nine years after the Macross Saga ended, the seem to have evolved again (as well as some of the other characters.

Second, which follows from the first: quite a few characters have a lot of untold story potential. In the Sentinels movie, Exedore and Max clearly have earned themselves more prominent roles, not to mention Dr. Lang. Promising new characters were introduced. It's difficult to judge.

Third, part of what attracted me in Sentinels was that all characters were presented as creatures of flesh and blood (even the Regent can be understood, from his point of view).

One of the great things of Robotech to me is the interaction between characters. It's not just action and adventure. it's personal development and interaction as well.

Perhaps that's also why I dislike Kyle, Dana and Scott. Kyle never interacts, he only makes things difficult. Apart from the few big sister to Bowie moments, Dana does not seem to have people skills either - she just follows her impulses and every one who objects, warns or poses a question get's ignored or verbally abused. And Scott - well, I like to second Rand's description of him: "Take the war away from him and there's nothing left".

If I may reply to the subtopic of the Entreprise solving everyting in the entire universe: with that argument you might as well dismiss just about every kind of fiction. In every story, the plot revolves around it's main characters. Problems solved by other people? Well, those are other stories with other characters.

In general, I think it is easier to use new characters in an entirely different concept than to come up with new characters in an existing concept. Apart from the relaunch of X-men in 1975, the later characters tend to lose from the original ones.

I think you should watch the entire series before deciding who your favourites are!
