Well, to be fair, that's probably the wrong mindset to have going into a weekly TV series like Macross 7. An OVA typically has a higher per-episode budget and more relaxed production schedule than a weekly TV series, which makes it considerably easier to produce higher-quality animation.

Macross 7's animation quality is pretty typical for a weekly animated series of the period (1994). Macross Plus is a bit above-average for an OVA of that same period.

Actually, I found the design of the mass-production model VF-19 Excalibur (VF-19F, VF-19S) kind of a letdown, since it had those stubby, truncated wings instead of the large swept-forward wings the YF-19 No.2 prototype had. I liked the mass-production model VF-22 Sturmvogel (VF-22S) a lot more, since almost nothing changed about the design.

They don't really touch on it in the series, but the VF-22 does (according to Macross Chronicle) have a scaled-back version of the brainwave control system with a non-contact interface that exists only to assist the physical controls (namely, countermeasures, targeting, and the like)... so the BDI/BCS didn't go away completely.

I JUST KNOW FROM WHAT I READ ABOUT IT IN MACROSS WORLD IN RELATION TO THE UNIVERSE. READING OTHER FANS VIEWS AND COMMENTS ACTUALLY IS MUCH BETTER STORY TELLING THAN WATCHING IT.

Yeah that was a serious WTF moment.

JUST GLAD THAT ZERO WAS SHORT ON EPISODES. FIRST 2 WERE GREAT. THIRD ONE AND DOWN WENT DOWNHILL FAST FOR ME. IF IT WAS GOING TO BE LIKE M7 WITH A LONGER SERIES I WOULD HAVE DROPPED WATCHING IT COMPLETELY.

I AM GLAD FRONTIER WAS NOT LIKE THAT.

I think it has some of the best music that Macross has to offer. The show is hard to get through, but there are a few good moments in the show. If you are expecting good sci-fi, or fair to good animation then you might want to skip it.

I agree. I love the music from Macross 7. I tried watching the series, but couldn't get past the first few episodes. I'll watch it all eventually, but I have a lot of other series to watch first.

I suggest getting fansubbed torrents. If you buy any 'dvds' off of ebay or something, you're likely to get poor bootleg chinese translations.
