You got me there 
. Been planing to do that one for a long time. And we already did an animated cell shading version of that. Here are some screenshots from the animated opening shot of Genesis Episode one
The camera slowly goes across the ocean , closes onto the sdf 1.. and moves into the bridge
....and i cant say more for now...

Anyway.. I planned to do this shot in a Realistic manner as well.. So i have been working on the textures and the ocean surface shading...and the detailing for quite some time
