'Get Animated!' at the California State Fair

A bit of "only in Sacramento" magic will happen when this year's California State Fair opens Wednesday: All of the nation's major animation studios will unite in one exhibit for the first time anywhere.

The whole whiz-bang presentation was conceived and brought here by Stage Nine Entertainment Inc., the group behind the nostalgia and memorabilia store in Old Sacramento. As it has done with exhibits in past years, Stage Nine Entertainment will take this one on the road.

The "Get Animated!" exhibit is pulling out the stops – vintage shorts, lessons in sketching Disney characters, interactive displays, talks by animators, memorabilia, photo opportunities – to tap the wonder adults and children have felt for animated cartoon characters ever since Mickey Mouse sprang into action on celluloid.

Cake bass player Gabriel Nelson's love of cartoon skunk Pepé Le Pew illustrates the point. Children giggle as this odor-able lothario falls hard for a female from the wrong family, taxonomically speaking. Yet, as Nelson, 40, explained to The Bee, Pepé's determined courtship may hold a deeper meaning for adults: "He shows us how wonderful romance is and how impossible it is, all at once."

CARL MACEK STARTED HELPING US EARLY ON WITH THE STATE FAIR AND BROUGHT A LOT OF TITLES TO THE TABLE TO USE FOR SHOWING. THIS PLANNING STARTED AT A.O.D. IN SAN FRANSISCO WHERE TOMMY, ANDREW, TONY OLIVER AND I WERE GOT TOGETHER TO MAKE SOMETHING FOR THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROBOTECH. AND IN THE END WITH THE STATE FAIR, THIS PRODUCT THAT CARL MACEK HELP TO START WILL RUN FOR 3 YEARS IN OTHER STATE FAIRS.

THANKS TO CARL MACEK IN THE BEGINNING AND HIS CONTACTS AFTER CARL'S PASSING THAT HELPED THAT WE WERE ABLE TO PRODUCE THIS THROUGH A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT BY HG TOMMY YUNE AND KEVIN MCKEEVER, ANDREW FROM TOY FUSION, MAVERICK LCS, AND STAGE NINE FROM THE STATE FAIR.

I REALLY WANT TO GIVE PROPER PROPS TO ANDREW. HE PUT THIS TOGETHER WITH THE STATE FAIR AND LET BE PART OF OTHER TOP NAME COMPANY'S

THANKS FOR YOUR APPRECIATION. THIS WAS REALLY ONE OF CARL'S WORKS THAT COULD NOT GO UNFINISHED. AND I AM GLAD WE WERE ABLE TO FINISH IT AND NOT GIVE UP. A CELEBRATION OF 25 YEARS OF ROBOTECH THAT WILL BE DISPLAYED FOR 3 YEARS.
